Especially once converted to the original 1 kHz XO or whatever comes closest once optimized with modern technology.

Wonder have they been reconed or not? It's hard to tell.
Has anyone had any experience with the 515/604 redone kits that are on eBay that are said to match or be similar to the original 515/604 cones? (The paper hinge one as seen in this auction)

I had the change to buy them years ago and had a lot of listening pleasure of these.
But it's time to say goodbye, I still have some other Altec 604E's and a nice pair model 19 to listen music.
The model 19 with 2" 291 drivers in my own DIY cabinets are my favorite. (Att)
The problem is ebay and paypal fee, I thinks that's about 900/1000 euro's totally.
Whitout that, I would sell these speakers a lot cheaper.
But okay that's just the way it is, I think ebay is the only way to reach a lot of people and to sell these speakers.

Take your pick of the evidence.
Sharp cut edges and bright white fibers exposed on the spiders.
Tinsel leads that look like they were just rolled off a new spool.
Blue cone color, that came along about 30 years after the first 604's.
Then of course there's the cone number that begins with a "W".
Subjective evidence:
Glue joints and the felt dust guards themselves are a little rough for a factory job.
Seller attempts no claims that the cones are original, if they were to the best of his knowledge, he surely would have stated the fact, particularly when he specifically mentions the networks and wiring are original. Seller is in fact careful not to suggest or imply that the cones are original.
Having had my hands on more than one early 515/604, i can assure you those would never ever be passed off as original to myself or any of my acquainted Altec enthusiasts.
Just my .02 y'all understand..........................
